His style is marked by exceptional precision in rendering vegetation and by the monumental scale of his compositions. He studied at the Moscow School of Painting and the Imperial Academy of Arts, earned the titles of academician and professor, and was among the founders of the Peredvizhniki (The Itinerants) movement. His paintings Morning in a Pine Forest and Forest Wilderness have become iconic examples of Russian realist landscape art. Today, Ivan Shishkin’s works are held in leading museums, including the State Tretyakov Gallery and the State Russian Museum.
