Konstantin Korovin was an outstanding Russian painter, educator, and theatrical designer active in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. He was among the earliest and most vivid representatives of Russian Impressionism, while consistently preserving a strong individuality. The central subjects of Korovin’s work were landscapes filled with light and fleeting impressions drawn directly from nature, as well as vibrant urban scenes and theatrical portraits.
Korovin occupies a key position in Russian painting at the turn of the 20th century. He was among the first artists in Russia to confidently assimilate the principles of Impressionism, enriching them with a distinctly national sense of color, freedom, and clarity. His unique style is immediately recognizable through dynamic brushwork and a masterful treatment of light and atmosphere. Among his most celebrated masterpieces are Paris. Boulevard des Capucines and In the Boat. His paintings are held in major museum collections, including the State Tretyakov Gallery and the State Russian Museum.
