The «Seledka» necklace is a result of a search for new enviromental friendly materials that could be used in the jewelry production.

Beads of the «Seledka» necklace were made of artificial stone utilising the scagliola technology.

The purpose of the project is to s demonstarte the prospects and potential of scagliola material in jewelry making.
Scagliola stone for the necklace was made of dry misture of gypsum and mineral, iron oxide pigments with the addition of an animal-based adhesive solution. Beads of various shapes were formed manually from the resulting gypsum dough. After the blanks dried, they were ground with abrasives. The beads were polished using mastic (wax, turpentine, rosin).

Russian culinary motifs were the main source of inspiration. The colors of the beads are based on the shades of the ingredients of the salad «Seledka pod shuboi (herring under a fur coat)».
The «Seledka» neckalce brings back pleasant, warm memories of the festive dish. Each bead symbolizes a certain taste sensation. The minimalism of the forms and the variety of colors harmoniously complement each other in this «delicious» product.
The cotton cord serves as a base of a necklace, on which the beads are arranged symmetrically by color. The main ingredient is located in the center — a bead in the shape of a herring.
The necklace clasp works as a button. The weight of the beads allows the jewelry to stay firmly on the neck.
Unlike the artificial polymer stones, scagliola stone meets environmental requirements.
Such marble is being made using only natural renewable raw materials. Gypsum (the main component of the scagliola stone) is one of the most environmentally friendly materials used in production. It is non-flammable and non-toxic. It has a mineral origin. Scagliola stone jewelry is safe for skin contact, even for children.
Another advantage of the jewelry made using the scagliola marble technology is its durability. Each piece is unique, since it is impossible to repeat the stone’s pattern exactly. This can be seen on the «Seledka» necklace.
The «Seledka» necklace may interest the ecologically conscious and creative men and women aged 18 and older.
To sum it all up, we can conclude that scagliola technique artificial stone can become a worthy environmentally friendly alternative to artificial stones made of polymer resins.
